Research Focus Areas

At TECRC, our research bridges the gap between environmental exposures and clinical outcomes. We focus on understanding how environmental factors affect human health and translating this knowledge into actionable medical plans and public health strategies.

Air Quality & Respiratory Health

Our research investigates the impact of air pollutants on respiratory health, identifying clinical markers that predict vulnerability to air pollution-related respiratory diseases.

Current Projects:

  • Long-term effects of PM2.5 exposure on lung function in urban populations
  • Clinical biomarkers for air pollution sensitivity in asthma patients
  • Developing personalized management strategies for patients with COPD in high-pollution environments

Translational Impact: Our findings have led to new clinical guidelines for respiratory disease management in areas with poor air quality and the development of personalized risk assessment tools.

Water Contaminants & Public Health

We study emerging water contaminants and their potential health effects, from pharmaceutical residues to industrial chemicals and microplastics.

Current Projects:

  • Long-term health effects of PFAS exposure through drinking water
  • Microplastics in drinking water: bioaccumulation and health outcomes
  • Pharmaceutical contamination: developing sensitive biomonitoring approaches

Translational Impact: Our research has informed water quality standards and contributed to clinical screening protocols for communities with contaminated water sources.

Climate Change & Vector-Borne Diseases

We track the changing distribution of disease vectors in relation to climate patterns and develop predictive models for disease outbreaks.

Current Projects:

  • Mapping the expansion of tick-borne diseases in relation to changing temperature patterns
  • Developing early warning systems for mosquito-borne disease outbreaks
  • Clinical presentations of vector-borne diseases in newly affected regions

Translational Impact: Our predictive models have been integrated into public health surveillance systems, and we've developed clinical guidelines for physicians in newly affected regions.

Environmental Toxins & Chronic Disease

Our research examines the relationships between environmental toxin exposure and the development of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurological conditions.

Current Projects:

  • Heavy metal exposure and cardiovascular disease risk markers
  • Endocrine-disrupting chemicals and metabolic syndrome
  • Environmental contributions to neurodegenerative disease progression

Translational Impact: We've developed clinical screening protocols for environmental exposures in patients with unexplained chronic conditions and created detoxification treatment protocols based on scientific evidence.
